PHAIDRA Projects
OSTrails (2024 - 2027)
OSTrails aims to advance scientific knowledge production through processes and tools for planning, tracking and evaluation. National and thematic contexts are taken into account, infrastructures are improved and key components are networked. In the Plan, Track and Assess stages, measures concerning data management plans, scientific knowledge graphs and FAIR tests will be taken to improve the quality of research data management and promote the FAIR principles. The resulting methods, tools and services will support researchers and improve the overall quality of research data management. The project is funded by the EU Framework Programme Horizon Europe. Coordinated by OpenAIRE, 38 partners, 22 research organisations, 5 ESFRI clusters and 24 pilot projects are working together. The University of Vienna and PHAIDRA-Services are involved in work packages 4 ("Pilots for Adoption") and 5 ("Community Engagement").
Shared RDM Services & Infrastructure (2023 – 2026)
The project Shared RDM Services & Infrastructure is a follow-up project to FAIR Data Austria in the Research Data digitisation cluster. The aim of the project is to create a framework to offer selected tools and infrastructures in the field of RDM as shared services for selected Austrian universities and research institutions. The project promotes interoperability and standardisation and ensures the national implementation of EOSC. The project partners are Graz University of Technology (lead), Vienna University of Technology, University of Vienna, University of Innsbruck, University of Graz, Medical University of Graz, Medical University of Innsbruck, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Vienna University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Vienna University of Economics and Business, Vienna University of Veterinary Medicine and 4 associated partners. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
FAIR Data Austria
The FAIR Data Austria project (2020-2022) supported the sustainable development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and contributed to a stronger knowledge transfer between universities, economy and society. The implementation of the FAIR principles in research data management (RDM) played an essential role in this context. Building and developing next-generation repositories for research data, code and other research outcomes, and developing training and support services for an efficient RDM, compliance with the FAIR principles was ensured. Together with FAIR Data Austria, the projects Austrian DataLab and Services and RIS Synergy form the project cluster Research Data and provided in cooperation complementary building blocks in the field of research data management. Project partners were Graz University of Technology, Institute of Interactive Systems and Data Science (ISDS), Vienna University of Technology, Center for Research Data Management, University of Vienna, Library and Archives, Department of Repository Management PHAIDRA-Services. Further cooperation partners were Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Medical University Graz, and University of Innsbruck. In addition, more than 20 associated partners, including universities and international initiatives, were working on the project. The Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) was the funding body. The project was completed in 2023.
Open Education Austria
Open Education Austria is a collaborative initiative among Austrian universities to develop a national infrastructure for creating, discovering, and sharing open educational resources (OER).
Open educational resources are educator-created documents and media that are freely available for anyone to download and use without restriction in a wide array of educational settings. For more information about OER, please visit Open educational resources - Wikipedia.
With Open Education Austria, the libraries, e-learning centres, and central computing services of our partnering universities will join forces for the first time to support grassroots educators in the development of innovative OER materials and educational strategies. The mission of the project is to boost the overall quality of teaching and learning in Austria’s classrooms, as well as expand access to best practice research and training within the expert community.
Open Education Austria was launched in June 2016 with the generous support of a Ministry of Science, Research and Economics grant for higher education. The expected completion date is December 2018.
Kulturpool
The cultural pool offers a central access to digital Austrian cultural heritage resources and also points to objects archived in Phaidra. The objects are also used in schools.
OpenAIRE - Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe
OpenAIRE is a pan-European research information system, which provides services to discover, store, link and analyse research output from all disciplines. Dec. 2009 the OpenAIRE project started within the FP7 programme (European Union’s Research and Innovation funding programme). Nine years of work later, January 2018 will mark the beginning of its fourth project phase.
OpenAIRE aims to support the implementation of the European Commission’s (EC) and European Research Council’s guidelines concerning the promotion and funding of science and research. OpenAIRE supports the open access mandate and the Open Research Data Pilot in Horizon 2020.
After the initialisation of the OpenAIRE-portal in 2010 it was possible for the first time to depict EU-funded projects and their scientific output as a whole and present it to the public. Here the video of the 10th anniversary of OpenAIRE.
The way OpenAIRE works?
OpenAIRE works as a pan-European meta-repository with more than 60 partner institutes from all European countries and beyond. In all countries of the European Union, in Switzerland, Norway, Serbia, Iceland and Turkey are local contact points established, so called National Open Access Desks (NOADs), which are representing OpenAIRE, answer questions and disseminate topic related information.
As one of the most important European e-infrastructures OpenAIRE will be in the position to be a weightier distributor to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The cloud will provide open access to digital functionalities, resources and competences for researchers of all disciplines. You will find more information, concerning the OpenAIRE services for researchers, data-providers, national contact points, or research services and funders, on the website of the project among
The University of Vienna is participating as one of the 26 institutions involved in this project, which aims to provide valuable digital objects from museums, collections, archives on a Europe-wide platform, in the future many European libraries will participate.
In the context of the Tempus IV program, the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency has approved the project "Development of new library services and repositories at the Universities of Western Balkan" submitted by the University Library of Belgrade on 15 January 2010. In addition to the universities Sarajevo, Montenegro, Maribor, the Middlesex Library Services in London, the university library was also involved with Phaidra.
The European Commission supports the establishment of a European Digital Library - Europeana, which provides quick and easy access to European books, documents and works of art. Digitized books, films, paintings, newspapers, sounds and archival documents from all over Europe can be reached here at the click of a mouse.
In OpenAIREplus, a second generation of the Open Access infrastructure was built. The results of the OpenAIRE project, which implements the EU Open Access (OA) pilot project, were expanded and developed in various directions. In 2015 launched OpenAIRE2020.
The project e-Infrastructures Austria reacts to the opportunities and challenges that arise through the responsible handling of digital objects and new technologies. The overall objective of the project is the coordinated construction and further development of repository infrastructures throughout Austria.
It is a central concern to involve research communities, libraries and IT services of all national academic and non-university scientific institutions and to work together to develop knowledge for the development of local repositories, to pool existing know-how and resources and to make available to all institutions participating in the project deliver. Within the three-year project period, all partner institutions set up a local document server or have access to a suitable document server. At the same time, the design of infrastructure facilities for research data and other digital objects (e.g., multimedia content, e-learning content) and the determination of future research data services are carried out.
