The.qxd format is used for documents created with QuarkXPress. QuarkXPress is a layout software from Quark, Inc. that is available for Microsoft and Apple Operating Systems. With the proprietary QuarkXPress software it is also possible to edit PDF or Microsoft Office files as QuarkXPress layout files. 

The files created with QuarkXPress can also be output as PDF.
